Larkin Square and the surrounding Larkinville neighborhood is home to many beautiful gardens. The National Garden Festival notes Larkin Square as one of the top public gardens in Western New York.
Within Larkin Square are planted a wide variety of perennials and annuals in hanging baskets, pots and gardens dotted throughout the Square.
In 2010, Larkin Development Group and KeyBank partnered on an extensive streetscape improvement project which included new streets, curbs, lighting and plantings along Van Rensselear and Seneca Streets. New plantings were installed featuring a wide array of perennials suited to an urban environment. The plaza and garden in front of the Buffalo Firehouse in front of Seneca and Swan Streets was also redone and planted at this time.
At Exchange and Van Rensselear Streets, Larkin Development Group created park space with plantings, tables and umbrellas for the enjoyment of those who work or live in the area.
Across the street from Larkin Square at 716 Swan Street is a 1890s era building is the Hydraulic Hearth Restaurant and Beer Garden. The beer garden has extensive plantings, shuffleboard courts and a custom-designed pergola.
