Presented by the Big Easy in Buffalo, James Andrews is a vocalist, songwriter, and trumpet legend from New Orleans. He hails from a musical family, the grandson of the late Jesse “Ooh-Poo-Pah-Doo” Hill and the brother of Troy “Trombone Shorty” Andrews. A trumpeter and vocalist with a tone and voice as distinctive as Louis Armstrong, Andrews is one of the primary cultural ambassadors from the cradle of music. Opening set by Buffalo’s own George Caldwell, a native of Clarksdale, Mississippi, who has toured the world with bands including the legendary Duke Ellington and Count Basie Orchestras, playing Carnegie Hall, Royal Albert Hall, the Kennedy Center, The Blue Note, Montreux and Newport Jazz Festivals, to name just a few.
