Join Ann Hood and Michael Ruhlman for a Larkin Square Author Talk on Thursday, July 11th at 5:30 PM.
New York Times best selling author Ann Hood returns to Larkin Square to speak about her new novel, The Stolen Child. Joining Ann will be her husband, Michael Ruhlman, James Beard Award winning writer. Michael will be speaking about his new novel, If You Can’t Take the Heat
Ann has written a variety of fiction and non-fiction books including her most recent book, Fly Girl. The Stolen Child tells the story of Nick Burns who has been haunted by a decision he made as a young soldier in World War I, when a French artist he’d befriended thrust both her paintings and her baby into his hands―and disappeared. In 1974, with only months left to live, Nick enlisted Jenny, a college dropout desperate for adventure, to help him unravel the mystery. The journey leads them from Paris galleries and provincial towns to a surprising place: the Museum of Tears, the life’s work of a lonely Italian craftsman. Determined to find the baby and the artist, hopeless romantic Jenny and curmudgeonly Nick must reckon with regret, betrayal, and the lives they’ve left behind. Kirkus reviews writes: “A well-crafted, fast-paced story about how a single encounter can shape a person’s whole life.”
Michael Ruhlman is the author of numerous books including the James Beard award winning cookbook, Ruhlman’s Twenty: 20 Techniques, 100 Recipes, a Cook’s Manifesto. Other recent books include the The Book of Cocktail Ratios: The Surprising Simplicity of Classic Cocktails, and From Scratch: 10 Meals, 175 Recipes, and Techniques You’ll Use Over and Over. His new novel, If You Can’t Take the Heat Is a coming-of-age story about finding a new life and love in the kitchen…and trying not to get burned along the way.
Books will be available for purchase at the event courtesy of Talking Leaves. A signing will follow the talk. Bratts Hill in Larkin Square will be open before and after the talk for refreshments to take out into the Square.
