AREA (excerpted) Torn Space Theater presents a video play in (716) GAL-LERY

Following on the heels of the recent exhibition Still Images | Moving Pictures, which explored the beginnings of motion pictures, comes another performing arts installation: AREA (Excerpt) @ (716) GAL-LERY

Torn Space Theater presents Buffalo’s shortest play inside Buffalo’s smallest art gallery, a repurposed vintage phone booth located inside the Hydraulic Hearth Restaurant & Brewery at 716 Swan Street in Larkinville.

Opening during the Saturday, October 10th, 11am – 3pm return of the popular Bagels and Brooze (in partnership with BreadHive Bakery) brunch service at Hydraulic Hearth, Torn Space’s installation for (716) GAL-LERY is an excerpt from their original production AREA (2010). The featured scene focuses on a phone conversation between two women regarding the sale of a used car. The conversation illustrates that a deeper and more sinister exchange might be occurring.

“In AREA we follow a young woman as she enters an environment of images that are at times alluring and sometimes shocking. Although she experiences moments of terror she does not turn back, but remains in search of some unattainable end. As her journey continues, we watch as her past begins to fade obscured by the lens of this new world.” states Dan Shanahan, Founder of Torn Space.

We are excited to partner with Torn Space, known for presenting plays in unexpected locations such as this past summer in Silo City. Torn Space is also a neighbor to Larkinville, with their theater located around the corner on Fillmore Avenue.”

Torn Space Theater (TST) presents original performances, re-interpretations of classic works, site-specific works and WNY premieres of internationally recognized, contemporary drama. Drawing from the leading edge of the global avant-gardes, TST cultivates collaboration among actors, musicians, and visual artists in both its original works and new interpretations of established plays.

AREA (2015) will be on display through Thanksgiving, 2015. For more information about Torn Space, visit www.tornspacetheater.com For more about Hydraulic Hearth and its (716) GAL-LERY, visit www.hydraulichearth.com.
