Cox is one of the founders of Community Beer Works, a local Buffalo nanobrewery opened in 2012. Their beer is served at over 20 bars and restaurants throughout WNY. Community Beer Works’ new satellite location is the recently opened Hydraulic Hearth located at 716 Swan Street, across from Larkin Square, where they will be brewing as well as serving select brews.

In Buffalo Beer: a History of Brewing in the Nickel City, authored by Ethan Cox and Mike Rizzo, the rich history of brewing in Buffalo is explored. By the middle of the 1800’s, beer brewing in Buffalo was thriving. Though many of these original breweries struggled through the Prohibition Era, a new wave of craft brewing has erupted in America, especially our very own Buffalo!

The Filling Station will be opened from 11am-3pm as a part of the 1st Annual Larkinville Ice Festival, serving a limited menu of hot pretzels, soup and paninis! The Ice Festival spans across 3 locations in Larkinville: The Filling Station, the Hydraulic Hearth, and Flying Bison Brewery. The Hearth will be open for their Saturday Tradition: Bagels and Brooze. Flying Bison will offer tours, tastings, food trucks, and live ice carving on site! For more information about the 1st Annual Larkinville Ice Festival, read our blog post!

Books available for sale at the Filling Station by Talking Leaves Book, Buffalo’s local bookstore.

The Larkin Square Author Series is sponsored by First Niagara and Independent Health.
