Live at Larkin Week 10 – Eric Starr Group w/Gruvology!

We’ve got a few tricks up our sleeves as we approach the home stretch of Live at Larkin, with just 5 free Wednesday concerts to go – stay tuned for some of those come Monday, and in the meantime, how about another homecoming this coming Wednesday? I love homecomings like a college kid loves home cooking!

I’ve been enjoying the original jazz of Buffalo-bred and NYC-based drummer Eric Starr since his old bandmate and The Buffalo News’ pop music critic Jeff Miers gave me Starr’s 2003 album “She,” which I reviewed for The News and later interviewed Starr before his show at The Tralf in 2004. I’ve still never seen him perform these beautiful songs live, though – excited to do so in Larkin Square as we reunite Eric with his show-stopping singer of a brother Nelson Starr to headline the night of original jazz that many of our guests requested in last year’s end-of-season survey.

Our opening act will make their second Live at Larkin appearance and first since 2012 – in the time since, Gruvology has recorded new original material and toured Europe, arguably the hardest-working jazz band in Buffalo. This ace quartet is sure to leave the stage hot for the Starrs, then turn it up another notch when they return for the dual band finale – this will mark the first time these musicians have performed together, join us to see it Live at Larkin!

Enjoy some videos below to get in the groove – including another of Nelson’s talents, hyping our food truck scene while hosting the “Buffalo. For Real” video series – let that be a tease for some of our news come Monday!
